The Accelerate Initiative was founded in collaboration with EcoVadis in early 2023 by four automotive, vehicle and mobility companies: General Motors, John Deere, Stellantis and Tenneco. All four leveraged EcoVadis Ratings within their sustainable procurement programs and were collectively inspired by the potential of industry collaboration to drive more significant impact and boost their company’s supply chain sustainability programs. The initiative is growing with new members and welcomes OEMs, Tire Manufacturers, Battery Suppliers, Metals providers and other key Tier 1 suppliers to the OEMs on a case-by-case basis thus gaining great insights into the sustainability strengths and weaknesses of the industry's value chain. Mission statement: Accelerate the EcoVadis program of each member and accelerate the decarbonization of the automotive, vehicle and mobility supply chain, which is an industry in transformation.
The group has chosen EcoVadis as their coordination office. The executive sponsors meet quarterly to validate the action plans proposed by the program referents in the members’ meetings. Action plans focusing on supplier improvement and capacity building are based on the industry’s sustainability priorities, such as energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, the sector views insights from the joint EcoVadis-powered supplier pool of more than 4000 suppliers that will permit the group to take action on other social, ethical or environmental topics, such as labour & human rights and child labour in particular.
