What is the Aerospace & Defense initiative?

The International Aerospace Environmental Group (IAEG) is a nonprofit industry association founded in 2011 with 62 members and growing, which jointly represent 70% of the global aerospace and defense sector with a combined annual revenue (2022) of $518B. The association collaborates to find leading-edge solutions to address environmental and sustainability aerospace challenges for voluntary and unilateral consideration and use of the members. IAEG develops voluntary consensus standards and solutions that can be used across the extended aerospace and defense value chain when tackling climate change, improving the chemical footprint and fostering sustainable and responsible business practices. 

IAEG is composed of several working groups. Working Group 11 is where the collaboration with EcoVadis will take place.

The IAEG ESG Engagement goal is to deploy and maintain an enduring aerospace industry voluntary standard, with the support of a proven third-party solution, for assessing Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) practices that enable informed business decisions, a duty of care compliance obligations, sustainability reporting and positive change in environmental & social topics.

• In 2022, IAEG members collaborated to develop requirements for an aerospace industry voluntary standard for sustainability assessments.
• In 1Q2023, IAEG selected EcoVadis to power its voluntary program on supplier sustainability assessments. 
• In 2Q2023, IAEG launched its Sustainability Assessments with founding IAEG participants.
• In 3Q2023, IAEG and EcoVadis will prepare for Take Off!, working towards the sector’s first survey initiative and the resulting insights to be realized and engaging with the extended aerospace supply chain.

EcoVadis has appointed an IAEG program manager to coordinate the individual member programs with the IAEG Work Group 11 leads, facilitate supplier capacity-building webinars, and support the interpretation and analysis of the EcoVadis-based sector data. Companies must be IAEG members and EcoVadis customers to benefit and contribute to this program.
