What is Responsible Beauty Initiative?

The Responsible Beauty Initiative (RBI) is a sector initiative focused on sustainable procurement. It was founded in 2017 to improve sustainability across the beauty supply chain by sharing best practices and processes, driving a common understanding across the industry and enhancing efficiency. Today, other leading companies have joined the co-founders to collaborate in the effort to accelerate progress in the beauty and cosmetics sector supply chain. All RBI members share their suppliers' sustainability assessments on the EcoVadis platform and meet regularly to discuss sector-view insights, share best practices and plan supplier capacity-building activities organized by EcoVadis as their coordination office. The initiative is growing and welcomes new members such as personal care, cosmetics and beauty companies worldwide, including major Tier 1 and 2 suppliers to the consumer-facing brands. One of the main focuses of the initiative is supply chain decarbonization. As members gather increasing insights on supply chain performance and action priorities via the EcoVadis platform and in the context of growing sustainability priorities, the RBI’s focus is now expanding to encompass new and vital topics such as human rights and biodiversity. This broadened scope reflects RBI members' commitment to addressing a wider range of sustainability challenges.

Suppose your company has received a request to be assessed by EcoVadis or to share your existing and valid EcoVadis Scorecard with an RBI member. In that case, you are considered a trading partner for at least one of the members of this sector initiative. By accepting RBI’s request, your company agrees to share your EcoVadis Rating with all current and future RBI members.
