The EcoVadis questionnaire is adjusted, among other parameters, to the size of the scope under assessment.
We differentiate between four company sizes:
- XS (1-25 employees);
- S (26-99 employees);
- M (100-999 employees);
- L (1000+ employees).
For the purpose of the EcoVadis assessment, an employee is defined as an individual with a direct employment contract with the rated company. This includes both full-time and part-time workers.
How does EcoVadis define my company’s size?
We define the size of your company or verify the one provided by you during the registration process based on the following publicly available sources:
- Primary sources: Company’s official website (including annual reports/certificates), Dun & Bradstreet database;
- Secondary sources: Top 8 official business registers for selected countries, e.g., Infogreffe (in France) or Companies House (in the UK);
- Alternative sources: Other reliable websites like Kompass, Mintportal, etc.
Important:
The size of a company assessed with the suffix (GROUP) is determined by the size of the company along with all its subsidiaries. For more information on the EcoVadis naming rules please consult our Help Center article here.
Can I change my company’s size if I have already received the questionnaire?
If you disagree with the size defined by EcoVadis for your company, please contact us. You will need to send us documentation as outlined below to confirm your company’s size. Once the size change is confirmed, you will receive an updated questionnaire.
Important: If you request changes to the company size, it may affect the current questionnaire and cause the progress to be lost. To avoid this, we recommend that you download a copy of the partially or fully filled questionnaire before requesting any changes. This will ensure that you do not lose any important data and make the process of repopulating the lost data easier.
Changing company size to XS or S
If you think that your size category should be reduced to small (S) or extra small (XS), we accept the following:
- Legal evidence (e.g. financial report or a payroll document). Some countries list the number of employees on the business registration form;
- In the absence of legal documentation, internal documents can be provided (e.g. employee handbooks, financial documents (e.g. SEC filing report) or any reporting documents which provide data on the workforce (e.g.social report, extract of the information obtained from annual report, 10-K reports or any other viable report as required by the local government detailing this information);
- Written statements signed by the HR and/or higher management personnel.
Changing company size from M to L or from L to M
For medium companies (M) looking to increase the size to large (L) or for large companies (L) looking to reduce the size to M (medium), we will need an official document(s) stating the number of employees for the company and all its subsidiaries (if any). We accept the following:
- Legal evidence (e.g. financial report or a payroll document). Some countries list the number of employees on the business registration form;
- In the absence of legal documentation, internal documents can be provided (e.g. employee handbooks, financial documents (e.g. SEC filing report) or any reporting documents which provide data on the workforce (e.g.social report, extract of the information obtained from annual report, 10-K reports or any other viable report as required by the local government detailing this information);
